The Environmental Public Health Office of the Henry County Health Department conducted and released four routine inspections.

County inspectors identified one critical violation and eight non-critical violations.

Applebee’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill in New Castle had three non-critical violations during a routine visit on Aug. 17. A lid for the reach-in ice cream freezer in the bar area was missing the handle. No paper towels were provided at the hand sink in the bar area. There were three insect glue sticks in the kitchen area.

Hardee’s in New Castle had four non-critical violations, two were repeat violations, during a routine and complaint visit on August 17. The french fry bin, french fry heat lamp, front line serving warmer, and milk shake mixer, and milkshake reach-in cooler were observed to be soiled. The spray nozzle on the three compartment sink was wrapped with a towel to prevent spraying due to it needing to be repaired. Two employees’ personal drinks were observed sitting above food. The floors under some of the equipment were observed with grease build-up and food debris.

Cafe Royal in New Castle had one critical violation and one non-critical violation that were both repeat violations during a follow-up visit on Aug. 19. The two door make table was observed with hard boiled eggs at 50 degrees, barbeque cooked pork at 49.3 degrees, cooked buffalo chicken at 47.7 degrees, and precooked sausage patties at 52 degrees. The two door make table was not maintaining a temperature of 41 degrees or below.

Country Charm Flower Farm and the 1400 Plaza Farmers’ Market had no violations during this time.

Unless there is an immediate risk to public health and safety, Indiana regulations give business owners 10 days to review food inspection reports before releasing them to the public.

According to the Indiana State Health Department (ISHD), critical violations are “more likely than other violations to significantly contribute to food contamination, illness or environmental health hazard.” Restaurant operators are required by law to correct critical violations at the time of inspection, unless the health inspector agrees to a longer time frame to correct more complex issues.

For more information on local restaurant inspection reports, visit the health department at 1201 Race St., Suite 208, New Castle, or call 765-521-7059.
